Prayer Meeting (July, 2025)

Boldly and confidently come into the presence of the God of comfort and compassion

The Father of Comfort and Compassion

2 Cor 1:2–4

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father of compassion
and the God of all comfort,

who comforts us in all our troubles,
so that we can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Hebrews 13:5–6

  1. …Be satisfied with what you have,
    for he himself has said,
I will never leave you nor abandon you.
  2. Therefore, we may boldly say,
    The Lord is my helper;
    I will not be afraid.
What can humans do to me?

Jesus’ compassion

  • When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matt 9:36
  • When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matt 14:14
  • Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” Matt 15:32

Matthew 20

  1. And there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  2. The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  3. And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”
  4. They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”
  5. And Jesus in compassion touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.

Luke 7

  1. As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.
  2. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
  3. Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
  4. And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
  • The story of ultra-wicked King Manasseh who finally repented:

2 Chron 33

  1. In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.
  2. When he prayed to the LORD, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his cry for mercy. The LORD brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. Then Manasseh realized that the LORD is the true God.

2 Cor 1:2–4

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father of compassion
and the God of all comfort,

who comforts us in all our troubles,
so that we can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Boldly and confidently come into the presence of the God of comfort and compassion

Hebrews 4

  1. Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.
  2. For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.
  3. Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.

Hebrews 10

  1. Therefore, brothers and sisters,
since we have authorization for free access to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, 20by the fresh and living way that he opened up for us, through the curtain—that is through his flesh,
  2. and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
  3. let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings,
because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from a burdened conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.
  4. And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.

Concluding prayer: Heb 13:20–21

Now may the God of peace
who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
equip you with every good thing to do his will,
working in us what is pleasing before him through Jesus Christ,
to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Hebrews in one Sentence

Look to Jesus, your perfecter,
who for joy, washed away all your imperfections at the cross,
and welcomes you from the throne of God.
